2 1/4 c Flour 1/2 c Sugar
1 ts Baking soda 1/2 c Shortening
1 ts Ground ginger 2/3 c Molasses
1 ts Ground cinnamon 1 ea Egg, beaten
2 ts Salt 3/4 c Boiling water
ds Ground cloves Whipped topping
Combine the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, salt, and cloves;
set aside. In a mixing bowl, cream sugar and shortening. Add
molasses and egg; mix well. Stir in the dry ingredients alternately
with water. Pour into a greased 9″ square baking pan. Bake at 350
degrees for 35-40 minutes. Cool completely. Cut into squares; top
with a dollop of whipped topping. Leftovers will keep several days in
an airtight container. Serves: 9
