Mattie Ball’s Gingerbread

Ingrients & Directions


1 c Sugar 1 Egg
1/2 c Crisco Or Lard 1/2 c Molasses
2 c Flour 1 1/4 c Buttermilk
2 ts Ginger 1 ts Baking Soda
1/3 ts Ground Cloves

Cream together the sugar and shortening. Add the flour and spices, and
crumble together. Reserve 1/2 cup for the topping.

Combine the egg, molasses, buttermilk, and baking soda. Add to the
flour mixture and pour into a greased and floured 9 X 13-inch pan.
Sprinkle the 1/2 cup of dry mixture on top of the batter.

Bake for 30-40 mins in a 350 F oven.

Serve with whipped cream or applesauce.
