Aunt Laura’s Chocolate Cake

Ingrients & Directions


3 Squares chocolate
3/4 c Boiling water or coffee;
-or combination
3 Eggs; well beaten
2 1/4 c Sugar
3/4 c Butter
1 pn Salt
1 1/2 ts Vanilla
1 1/2 -(up to)
1 3/4 c Buttermilk
1 1/2 ts Soda
2 1/4 c Sifted flour
1 Square chocolate; melted

Melt 3 squares chocolate in water. Cool. Combine eggs, sugar, salt and
butter. Add chocolate mixture, vanilla, buttermilk and soda. Add flour.
Pour into three 8- or 9-inch pans. Bake at 375 about 30 minutes. Cool and
ice with Colonnade Icing (see Index). Dribble 1 square chocolate over top
and sides.
