1/2 c Shortening
1/2 ts Baking soda
1/2 c Packed brown sugar
1/4 ts Salt
1 ts Cinnamon
1/2 c Granulated sugar
2 Eggs
1/4 ts Nutmeg
2 c Sifted cake flour
1/2 ts Allspice
2 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Cloves
1 c Beer
Cream shortening, add sugars gradually, blending thoroughly. Add eggs, beat
thoroughly. Mix and sift dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture
alternately with beer, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Turn into
greased 8x8x2″ pan.
Bake in moderate oven, 4045 minutes. Cool, slice, enjoy!
