1/3 c Shortening
1 c Brown sugar
1 1/2 c Dark molasses
2/3 c Cold water
2 1/2 c FLOUR***
2 ts Baking soda
1 ts Salt
1 ts Allspice
1 ts Ginger
1 ts Cloves
1 ts Cinnamon
Mix shortening, sugar, and molasses thoroughly. Stir in water. Blend all
dry ingredients. Blend all together. Chill. Heat oven to 350.
Roll dough to 1/4″ thick. Cut into shapes. Place far apart on a lightly
greased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes
(cut baking time in half if you want them soft)
Ice when cool.
