1 1/2 c Sugar
2 lg Eggs
1/2 c Shortening
1 c Sour cream
1 ts Baking soda
1 tb Vanilla extract
3 c All-purpose flour
1 tb Baking powder
1/2 ts Salt
Cream sugar, eggs and shortening. Combine sour cream, baking soda and
vanilla; add to creamed mixture. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Drop by
heaping tablespoonful onto a greased baking sheet. Bake at 350F for 8 to
12 minutes. For variety, add chocolate chips, raisins or nuts to the dough
before baking. To make rolled cookies, add 1 cup of flour to the dough,
chill, then roll out and cut into shapes.
NOTES : This is an old family recipe submitted by a reader of the Bee. The
cookies are an old-fashioned, cake-style cookie that can be baked in drops
or rolled and shaped for decorated cookies.
