2 c All-purpose flour
1/2 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Baking soda
1/4 ts Salt
1/2 c Butter; softened
1 c Sugar
1 Egg
1 ts Vanilla
1/2 ts Grated orange peel
1 ts Milk; (up to 2)
FOR THE FROSTING
Powdered sugar
1 tb Milk
Decorations: colored sugar, edible silver beads, chocolate jimmies,
sprinkles, etc.
Measure flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt, then sift together. In
another bowl, beat butter, sugar, egg, vanilla and grated orange peel until
light and fluffy.
Add beaten mixture to sifted mixture alternately with 1-2 teaspoons milk.
Mix thoroughly. Chill dough about 1 hour. Roll dough on lightly floured
board to about -1/4-inch thick. Cut with Christmas-shaped cookie cutters.
Bake 8-12 minutes at 375 degrees.
To make frosting: Mix powdered sugar with 1 tablespoon milk to desired
consistency to spread on cookies. Frosting can be colored with food
coloring for various cookie shapes. Frosting will harden as it sits. After
cookies are frosted, decorate as desired. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
