1/4 ts Cream of tartar
Chill egg whites, add salt and cream of tartar and beat until very stiff.
Gradually add sugar and beat long enough to thoroughly dissolve the grains
of sugar. To decorate pie, spread half over pie filling, the put remainder
in pastry bag and decorate edges. If desired, sprinkle top with 1
tablespoon of sugar. Bake as directed for specific pie.
